Altar Ministry
The Altar Guild is in charge of changing the Altar Clothes different times of the Church Year and also responsible for setting up and taking down of Communion. You may wonder why our altar clothes change at certain times of the year. I once heard a sermon explaining the colors that we present on the altar. It helped me understand why we change them for different seasons and helped me see them in a whole new light and meaning. I pray that it does the same for you.

Blue - hope - Season of Advent. We watch, and wait for our Lord to be born on Christmas. Our Christian faith rests on the hope that Christ, who came in history assuming our flesh, will also return on the last day of time from that same blue sky He ascended long ago.
Green - growth - Seasons of Epiphany & Sundays after Pentecost (most used color). It is important that we spend time in Christ's Word to mature and be encouraged in our faith walk.
Black - somber & reflection - Ash Wednesday & Good Friday. These times are when we reflect on the cost of our redemption. Without Christ's sacrifice on the day the sky turned dark and hid the light of the sun, there would be no bright Light of Christ to live in, nor new life in Christ to enjoy
Purple - repentance - Lent. A purple robe was mentioned once in the Bible when the guards mocked Jesus as being royalty. Purple was expensive and hard to come by. Only royalty wore it back then. Purple is a reminder of the scorn Jesus endured and the His sacrifice for us. Purple helps us remember to check ourselves each day to live humbly and repent for our sins.
White - purity - Christmas & Easter. "Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow." Christ's triumph from the grave on Resurrection day is the cause for our rejoicing. His purity before his Father becomes our purity. White reinforces that message of joy.
Red- power - Pentecost & Reformation Sundays. We remember the power and fire on Pentecost with this color. The color red communicates the motif of strength-strength and power the Holy Spirit gives in order for God's people to call on the name of Jesus Christ and share that powerful name with others.
